Connection of a new kiBox

Welcome to Kiconex! On this page we will explain in detail what procedure you must follow to correctly connect your kibox.

Before starting, it is advisable to obtain more information about the ModBus protocol.

1 - Modbus RS485 bus connection

First, all controls must be connected through a shielded 2-wire communications cable, like the one shown in the following image:

You can connect one or more controls to a kiBox. We recommend that, if you want to connect a certain number of controls, you contact your supplier so they can advise you on the product that best suits your needs.

To connect several controls, the interconnection must be done along the same line, using a Daisy-Chain topology. Connecting via daisy-chain means that each team connects to the previous one in a linear way, forming a chain. Below is the daisy-chain typology and an example of three devices (a thermostat and two controls) connected through it to a kibox.

You can create as many bus lines as there are ports in your kiBox model. At kiconex, we recommend balancing the amount of equipment that is connected to each port (or bus line), in order not to saturate a single line with the information of all the controls and avoid the problems that it may cause (communication conflicts, slow transmission, loss of information, etc.).

We recommend reading RTU-RS485 Modbus Wiring Check to avoid possible problems after commissioning your kiBox. Likewise, it is advisable to plan your installation taking into account the details listed in plan an installation.
